Movie Review: Incredible Hulk
Hulk is one of the comic characters that I never actually get used to. Aside from that, there is no stopping them movie makers to bring Hulk to the big screen. If you have remembered Ang Lee’s disappointing Hulk, you won’t get disappointed with this. Hulk is powerful, agile and does what it’s supposed to do; true to its comic root.
*Warning: Spoilers ahead*
Edward Norton (Bruce Banner) is trying hard to look for his cure while escaping from General Ross (William Hurt). After their brief intervention, he was forced to find the data which only the General’s daughter has it, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler). Along the way, the General commanded Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) to hunt him down and bring him back alive.
Along the way Blonsky was injected with Super Soldier serum but he always felt it is not enough to battle the Hulk. Cut short, Bruce managed to locate the scientist who’s willing to help him and administer the cure. After being taken by the Army, Blonsky asked for serum to make him as good as hulk, maybe even stronger. Thus, he became The Abomination. As usual, an epic fight broke out between them. Guess who’s the winner?
Visually, I prefer the old hulk, which has a clean green guy instead of dirty look on this new one. Who am I to complain if it was Stan Lee who approved it. Still it looked wrong to me. Problem with this new hulk is that they added lots of texture to the Hulk, which looks plastic. I can just imagine if you’re going to watch this under Blue Ray, the effect would be horrendous. With a gold plated HDMI splitter, that would be even worse.
Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and William Hurt gave very solid performance in the show but somehow the chemistry is lost between them. Only Tim Roth is the one with determination to shine being a guy who’s in love with the power bestowed to him. I’ll chose him anytime over Edward Norton.
For first timer, this could be a so-so movie but for those who have watched the self-induced head bashing Ang Lee’s Hulk, this version is a relive for us who needs a comic-to-movie fix.

I would say it is still a failure. Spiderman movie series have set a benchmark many will not be able to surpass in near future.

Well, at least it’s better than the first. I believe this is a pre-requisite for all the upcoming Marvel-to-Movies.
