Movie Review: Get Smart
Watching Get Smart is like seeing Don Adams using the best anti wrinkle cream. It’s like he never aged. If Steve Carell wasn’t famous at all, I would have thought I saw Don Adams. Great show, great laugh, just don’t expect this to be a James Bond movie. This is supposed to be a spoof that will bring out laughs. Fortunately, the Get Smart franchise has gathered its own cult that could rival the Austin Powers series.
*Warning: Spoilers ahead*
Steve Carell is Maxwell Smart, a CONTROL data analyst who’s so good at his job that his boss refused to promote him to a field agent status. When the CONTROL base was ravaged by KAOS and the list of agent is stolen, CONTROL find itself without agents as KAOS killed all of them around the world. There are only 3 agents left, Maxwell Smart, who’s promoted to field agent the moment the base was lost, Agent 99 just came back from a plastic surgery and Agent 23 who retired from field agent to a desk job.
Interestingly, they followed the perpetrator around the world and there are many funny and fumbling instances. In the end, Steve Carell’s Maxwell Smart is a smart agent with little field experience and thus always fumbled his way. Don Adams version is just pure idiot who just got lucky landed himself being a CONTROL agent.
Watch this show if you want a lighter part of slapstick or if you’re a fan of Get Smart. If you’re looking for some serious funny with lots of punch line, this is not a show for you.
