Movie Review: Sydney White
Watching Sydney White is like watching She’s The Man all over again. Instead of taking adaptation from William Shakespeare like in Twelfth Night, this movie borrowed heavy elements from Snow White. I guess after Hillary Duff taken her movie on Cinderella, I think it’s only befitting that Amanda Bynes should take the next step being Snow White in this movie.
Alright, before I go on, this movie is a chick flick. The correlation between old storybook into modern storyline always interest me and therefore I’m always on a lookout for this kind of movie. Which is why I find She’s The Man is so entertaining.
*Spoilers ahead*
Sydney (Amanda Bynes) grew up with her single father who worked as a plumber in a construction line. Living among men all her life, she felt comfortable with them and was pretty rugged herself in most situation. She went to the same college as her mom and is expected to join the same sorority member. There she met a Tyler Prince (Matt Long). Their sorority leader, Rachel Witchburn (Sara Paxton) is a high profile power hungry girl decided that Sydney does not fit in and throw her out during one of the sorority inauguration.
Feeling sad and disappointed, she was welcomed into Vortex, a place where all dorks are banded together. She mixed comfortably into the guys and she decided it’s time to make things right. Fighting for freedom, she convinced Terence (a math geek) to fight for president while she ran as the 7-dork manager.
She was thwarted again by Rachel and when she’s think she really blew her time in college, her father came to the rescue with advice from her mother. She puts in more effort this time and she managed to convince lots of party in the school to fight with her to get their place in the campus community. Taking cues from her Political class, she managed to gather votes but Rachel took it a step further by planting a virus in her Apple. Taking in the bad Apple, she was stunned and had to burn the midnight oil for tomorrow’s debate.
The time came but she was nowhere to be seen. The Tyler Prince went to the library found her asleep in the chair decided to give her a wake up kiss. She came around and went to the debate and won the chair for presidency.
Cool movie, but still not as funny as She’s The Man but I’m surprised how Amanda Bynes could actually act dorky. Go for the movie if you’re fan of Amanda Bynes. So far this movie should have a better plot but seriously I’m lost at words on what should be changed in the movie. So far she’s a rising star here; let’s hope so she doesn’t end up like Lindsey Lohan or Britney Spears.
Overall, the movie is fun and entertaining. You can practically guess the end of the plot but seeing her win against the day seem so overwhelming and makes it so darn enjoyable. Well, it’s just an Amanda Bynes movie. ![]()
